Many of New England's finest colonial homes are open to the public. This was the extent of decorative design. The most decorative were the post-medieval styles, where the second story slightly protruded over the lower floor and the small casement windows would have diamond-shaped panes. New England architecture was inspired by the beliefs of the inhabitants, and the Puritans tolerated little exterior ornamentation. Some homes added the luxury of saltbox-shaped lean-to additions, used to keep wood and supplies dry. A large, center fireplace and chimney would heat upstairs and downstairs. Early homes were one story, but as more family arrived from Britain these "starter homes" became two-stories, often with steep roofs, narrow eaves, and side gables. Northern colonial homes were wood framed construction, usually the plentiful white pine, with clapboard or shingle siding. Remember that Vermont and Maine were not part of the 13 original colonies, although much of the architecture is similar, modified by French influences from the north. The family bathroom, designed like the master bath, has a white wood vanity, a solid counter, a shower and tub unit with tiles above, light blue walls and a tile floor. A third bedroom, which is currently being used as an office, has one window and a closet. Another bedroom has a double window, a deep closet that’s like a smallish walk-in and recessed lights. One of the additional bedrooms has two windows and a closet with folding doors. In the master bath, there's a white wood vanity with a stone counter and single sink, a three-paned mirror over the medicine cabinet, a shower and tub unit with tile above it, and a white tile floor with a fleur-de-lis painted on three tiles. The master bedroom has two windows on the front, wall-to-wall carpet - as do the other bedrooms and the hall - and two closets with folding doors on either side of a short hall to the master bath. There's a window on the side of the garage and a window in a walk-out door to the backyard.Ĭarpeted steps from the foyer lead to the second floor, which has a master bedroom and bathroom, three additional bedrooms and a family bathroom. At the end of the hall is a door to the two-car garage with electric door openers. The machines that are there will not stay with the house. Behind folding doors are connections for a washer and electric dryer. On a short hallway off the kitchen, there’s a half bath with a dark wood vanity and stone counter and a tile floor. Tall deciduous trees run along the edge of the property. In the backyard, there’s an above ground pool that’s 52 inches deep and 24 feet across, and there's an awning off the back of the garage. There’s a door with a large glass pane to the concrete patio. The kitchen flows into a large eat-in area with a triple window, a half moon window above it, a ceiling fan and recessed lights. The refrigerator is a stainless Samsung with French doors and a freezer on the bottom. There are recessed lights and lights under the cabinets while the floor is ceramic tile. On the other side of the island is another granite counter also with a stone tile backsplash, more maple cabinets with glass windows on the center two cabinets, a wine cooler, a wine rack and two tall pantries. On one side of the island is a granite counter with a tall stone backsplash, beautiful maple cabinets, a stainless Jenn-Air double wall oven (top oven is convection and the bottom oven is regular), a stainless Bosch dishwasher and an oval-shaped double sink. At the center of the kitchen is a large granite island with an extended edge to accommodate bar chairs and a flattop stop stove on it with two pendant lights hanging above. The gorgeous kitchen has entrances from the living room, family room and foyer. To the right of the foyer is a spacious family room with a bay window, a brick wood-burning fireplace with a brick hearth and a white wood mantel, recessed lights, a ceiling fan and crown molding. A crystal chandelier hangs over the dining room table while the floor is a gorgeous rich colored hardwood, as it is in the formal living room and the family room.Ī large opening at the back of the dining room flows into the living room, which has a double window and a scalloped ceiling with a bowl lamp. To the left is a dining room with a lovely bay window - the two side windows crank open - and a window at the end of the room. The dark red front door, with a leaded oval window in the center, opens to a tiled foyer with a coat closet. It is being listed by Realtor Deb Cucinotta of Coldwell Banker for $349,900. The house offers 2,008 square feet of space with 0.92 acres of property.
